Just noticed this morning that Google has made a subtle change to the headings in the keyword external tool. (Showing in the UK on UK based search data)
Whereas before the heading used to say Ave Search Volume (previous month here), and Average Search Volume. They now state local search volume (previous month) and GLOBAL search volume average. This has cleared up the reason for the huge disparity between the two figures and why you could have a search volume of hundreds in the previous month, but an average SV of tens of thousands.
